Backyard Offset Smoker

One of NZ's highest quality Offset Smoker

Endless Features

Semi Insulated

The semi-insulated firebox traps heat where it matters most, creating a hotter coal bed for faster ignition and more stable cooking temperatures. Fire management becomes easier, fuel consumption is reduced, and the smoke stays cleaner — all without affecting the authentic wood-fired flavour.

Hotspots Eliminated

Both our direct flow & reverse flow smokers maintain consistent temperatures across the cooking chamber thanks to optimised airflow, a large firebox for easy fuel control, and a custom baffle design that removes hotspots for perfectly even cooking.

Slide out Top Rack

The slide-out top rack is perfect for maximizing your cooking capacity — fit extra ribs, chicken, or veggies in the hotter top zone. And when you want a clear chamber for larger cuts, it simply slides out for full flexibility.

Cast Iron Casters

Our heavy-duty cast iron casters are rated to carry up to 300kg each, giving your smoker both stability and mobility. Smooth-rolling and built to last, they make moving our units around your backyard easy and reliable.

Fold Down Table

The wooden fold-down table gives you extra workspace for prep, plating, or holding tools and ingredients while you cook. It folds down when you don't need it, and can also be removed entirely if you want a clear workspace.

Reverse & direct flow available

Choose between direct flow or reverse flow to suit your cooking style. Direct flow provides traditional smoke and heat, while reverse flow ensures even temperatures across the cooking chamber for consistent, professional results.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the Swelter Weigh?

The Swelter Firepit weighs up to 30kg with accessories installed — a true testament to the rugged build quality and craftsmanship we pride ourselves on at Rawsteelco.

Do You offer a smaller size?

Yes — the Swelter Firepit is the largest of our three models. We also make a slightly smaller version that’s great for tighter outdoor spaces or when you need to move it around more often. For maximum portability, there’s an even smaller foldable firepit grill, made from four interlocking panels — perfect for hunting trips, camping, or beach fires.

Is it safe for my deck?

Yes — the Swelter Firepit can be used on a wooden deck, but you’ll need to use our Deck Guard accessory to protect the surface from heat. You can purchase it here.

What is the turn-around time for when ordering a Swelter?

The standard build time for a Swelter Firepit is around 3–5 weeks, depending on the time of year. If you need a more accurate timeframe — or you’re hoping to get one sooner — just get in touch and our team will sort you out.

Is this built in New Zealand?

Yes — we’re proud to say all of our products are handmade right here in Canterbury, New Zealand. You can read more about our story on our About page.

What is the Swelter made from, and how tough is it?

The Swelter Firepit is built from 5mm Corten steel, designed to handle serious heat and outdoor conditions. Under the high-temperature paint is raw Corten steel, which naturally develops a protective patina over time. So while the paint may scratch with use, it’s no problem — the steel underneath is made to last and will continue to protect itself from the elements.
